Speaker A:

Hey, hey, funky fam.

Speaker A:

Welcome to the outdoor funky podcast.

Speaker A:

I'm your host, Nicholas Cleave.

Speaker A:

Peddler, biker, hiker, and outdoor adventure.

Speaker A:

Whether it's solo or with family and friends, we're all about real places, real stories, and funky outdoor moments.

Speaker A:

Today's adventure, a visit to the Field of Dreams.

Speaker A:

Now, the Field of Dreams.

Speaker A:

This place hits differently.

Speaker A:

If you build it, they will come.

Speaker A:

We stood where magic and memories meet in Dyersville, Iowa.

Speaker A:

This, y', all, is the home of the iconic Fields of Dreams movie.

Speaker A:

That diamond surrounded by corn fields feels like stepping inside a story you've always known.

Speaker A:

It was so much fun, y'.

Speaker A:

All.

Speaker A:

We got to toss pitches, run the bases, hit some, hit some balls, and just soak it all.

Speaker A:

It felt simple.

Speaker A:

It felt sacred.

Speaker A:

It felt funky in its own quiet way.

Speaker A:

They had.

Speaker A:

It was great.

Speaker A:

I think we paid $20 just kind of as a donation to get in.

Speaker A:

It's kind of like a donate type of a thing.

Speaker A:

And then it's literally a field, a baseball field with the house from the movie there.

Speaker A:

And they actually have, like, a.

Speaker A:

Like a barn built, like a red barn type of a thing built that says Field of Dreams on it.

Speaker A:

And it's kind of like a visitor center, I guess, if you will, where you can buy some souvenirs, too.

Speaker A:

But the building, the field, and the house were there from the movie.

Speaker A:

Boy, that was cool.

Speaker A:

And they had a container where you could just.

Speaker A:

They had baseballs.

Speaker A:

They had baseball gloves, bats, and you could just have some fun with your family and just do a pickup game and just join in with other strangers.

Speaker A:

How cool is that?

Speaker A:

Just kind of join in and have some fun.

Speaker A:

And it's kind of.

Speaker A:

It almost felt like the sand lot in a way out there.

Speaker A:

You know, it's just like there was nobody keeping score.

Speaker A:

We were just out there having some fun.

Speaker A:

Boat unfilled of dreams.

Speaker A:

So I encourage you.

Speaker A:

You want to get outside and see something cool with your family, check out this Iowa road trip to the Field of Dreams.

Speaker A:

If you're.

Speaker A:

If you're somewhere near.

Speaker A:

We actually we on our way to the Wisconsin Dells, and I didn't even.

Speaker A:

It just dawned on me while we were driving.

Speaker A:

I said, hey, we're gonna be by the Field of Dreams.

Speaker A:

Why don't we stop there?

Speaker A:

I said to my wife, we didn't even have that in our itinerary.

Speaker A:

So isn't it funny that sometimes when you set out to do something on, like, a family vacation or a family road trip, sometimes the surprises are the ones that aren't planned.

Speaker A:

So why does this place matter?

Speaker A:

It's not just about baseball.

Speaker A:

It's about connection, legacy and wonder.

Speaker A:

The power of this place.

Speaker A:

It's not flashy.

Speaker A:

I mean, there's nothing flashy or fancy about this place.

Speaker A:

It's in the nostalgia, the stillness, and the echo of joy.

Speaker A:

It reminded me how outdoor places can hold our dreams, even if we've never been before.

Speaker A:

Now, my children had never been here before, and so I just.

Speaker A:

It was very exciting to see them so excited to visit this place.

Speaker A:

I've been here before.

Speaker A:

My wife has been there before.

Speaker A:

Not together.

Speaker A:

Funny enough, I've been there in Ragbrae back.

Speaker A:

My very first Ragbrai I did.

Speaker A:

My best friend from college still had me strap.

Speaker A:

He had me bring my glove on ragbry and strap it to my bike that day because he said, we're going to the field of dreams on this day where Ragbrai goes through it.

Speaker A:

And boy, that was fun to play there.

Speaker A:

And years later, the first year that I did that, I think was, oh, my children were just babies.

Speaker A:

And so years later, getting to go back with my children, my three children, and get to play in the field of dreams with them, pretty special.

Speaker A:

There's one, you know, I think about the movie here.

Speaker A:

There's one line from the movie that sticks out with me.

Speaker A:

Not just because it's famous, but because it's true.

Speaker A:

And a lot of people have heard this says, is this heaven?

Speaker A:

No, it's Iowa.

Speaker A:

And yes, being here on this day felt very right.

Speaker A:

Now, I think we all have our own field of dreams.

Speaker A:

We all have maybe a goal, a memory, or a place that centers us.

Speaker A:

The beauty of outdoor adventures is that they create moments that live on.

Speaker A:

And this one, this was one for the books.

Speaker A:

You don't need crowds or chaos to make something magical.

Speaker A:

Sometimes you just need a cornfield, a baseball, and a little quiet.

Speaker A:

So I want to encourage you, if you get a chance to go to the field of dreams with your family, do it.

Speaker A:

Or if you need to go by yourself, go.

Speaker A:

It's worth the trip.

Speaker A:

It's worth the opportunity, seeing it at least once.

Speaker A:

You're not gonna get flashiness because there's nothing flashy about it.

Speaker A:

There's nothing fancy about it.

Speaker A:

It's cool because there was an.

Speaker A:

There was a baseball player there, too.

Speaker A:

He is.

Speaker A:

He was dressed up in an old time.

Speaker A:

There was a fella dressed up as an old time baseball player.

Speaker A:

And you got to watch the movie to kind of understand what's going on there, but it just felt Right.

Speaker A:

And so I encourage you look for opportunities like that, little wins that your family can experience together.

Speaker A:

When you're out there road tripping or seeing things, maybe there's something in your own state that you might have overlooked or not thought about taking time to visit.

Speaker A:

And then all of a sudden, a moment presents itself.

Speaker A:

Well, a moment presented itself for me to make sure that I took my family to the Field of Dreams when we were only a matter of half hour out of the way in order to come here, as we were on our way on a field trip to go to the Wisconsin Dells Water Park.

Speaker A:

And so Field of Dreams was not on that original itinerary, but we added it and how glad we are.

Speaker A:

So I want to encourage you to go out, explore, be yourself, get outside, get funky.

Speaker A:

Bye now.

Speaker A:

Sample it.
